Shirley Amor

 + 23 April 2013

For years and years, The Cross has adored the embroidery works of Shirley McLauchlan. From her enchanting baby blankets to her wonderful pillows, Shirley’s pieces are lovable keepsakes that you will cherish for years. For the past Royal Wedding and Golden Jubilee, Shirley’s royal British themed pieces adorned our windows with national pride. Cross owner Sam, loves all her cards, blankets and cushions and has had many personalised with dates and names.

The Cross has undertaken a new collaboration with Shirley Mclauchlan marrying our love of her embroidery with Mexican traditional art. For years, we have adored Central American culture, from our brightly woven baskets by Milagros, to our Day of the Dead paper decorations and most recently  accessories by Totem Salvaged using genuine serape textiles.

Inspired by Frida Kahlo and the film depicting her life story, we are delighted to have these stunning new cushions depicting typical Mexican designs: Florals, colourful birds and Spanish wording. Each cushion is slightly different in design and available to buy here.

Cross Girl Talents: Part Three

 + 27 March 2013

Over the past few weeks we have been highlighting the multi-layers of the Cross girls. Amelia and her embroidery, Jess's illustration, Sarah’s printed bag designs and Georgie’s styling and wardrobe editing.

If you have ever stumbled across our homepage and wandered who collated and collaged the fabulous imagery, or read our newsletters and admired the illustrated headers, then you might like to know, they are done by our very own Cross buyer, Julia.

Julia has an extensive background in fashion, art and illustration having studied at Munich's ESMOD International (l'Ecole Supérieure des Arts et techniques de la Mode) - the first fashion school established in France; founded in 1841. Over the past year she has rekindled her art for multiple projects from the marketing for her German pop-up restaurant DAHEIM, the branding of London jewellery label Adelphe to the Clarendon Cross Christmas Party flyer. Her next project - an illustrated travel diary...watch out for more to come!

This Easter at the Cross, you may have seen our precious chick egg warmers in store.  They are designed and hand knitted by our very own accountant, Marion. The Cross director, Sam is great supporter of all our talents. Sam roped in our lovely accountant to make more knitted delights. For now, the egg-warmers are available for £10 each. Every single one is unique and they make a great Easter gift.

The New Season It Bag: Totem Salvaged

 + 19 March 2013

If there is one bag you invest in this season, then it has to be the Totem Salvaged bag. Forget Bottega and Balanciagia, here at the Cross we are completely wild over these colourful patterned bags.

Totem Salvaged, based in LA, cherry pick different vintage textiles with a Wild West feel to them, and then give them new life, creating contemporary accessories. Salvaged it really is, with all textiles sourced on road trips around the USA, hand-selecting Navajo blankets, vintage needlepoint, Mexican Sarape Saltillio fabrics, equestrian tack, and American flags.  Wearing a totem bag, you will not just be sporting an amazingly stylish and current tote, but wearing a piece racked with history and artisan, with all textiles dating from the 1920s to the 1970 reclaimed and made in the Totem studio in California.

Road Tripping...

Totem’s bags fit in perfectly with the Cross’ Spring Summer story, which is really a celebration of colour and print and elements of Navajo. Pop into the shop and check out the bags for yourself, or alternatively, have a look on our web shop.

Mishkin's Night Out

 + 14 March 2013

The Cross girls took to the town last week in celebration of Jess’ and Anna’s birthdays. We had read a great deal about Mishkin’s in Covent Garden, so this was our choice spot for the night.

Mishkin’s describes itself as a kind of Jewish deli with cocktails. On a dreary March evening, nothing could be better than wholesome food in a diner setting, with leather booths and low level lighting. After some martini cocktails, we shared different starters including popcorn cod, candied beets and pickled herring. After our mains we were well and truly stuffed, but still had room for dessert and more wine.  We thoroughly recommend it.
